No ADAC

Today Abu-Dhabi Adventure Challenge starts but with out Team Explore. Team captain Mikael Lindnord had a virusinfection just after he came home from the World Champs in Brazil, so with this short notice the team couldn´t find a replacement that was good enogh, becouse the Abu-Dhabi race requires very good paddling skills to perform.

Now the team looking forward to the next season after a 3rd place finish in Colombia last week.

The team in Colombia

After the ARWC in Brazil the team aimed for Abu Dhabi adventure challenge, but made a quick change just a couple of days before the start of 7 Cerros Medellin, in Colombia. A great urban race where Petri Forsman recently years have been racing.
Mikael Lindnord got really sick after arrival to Sweden with some virus after ARWC, and had to cancel his participation and the replacement in Colombia will be Ola Alsterholm.

The big and fantastic support crew together with the team just before the start.

The team and the support crew arrived to the stunning beautiful small village Jericoacaro on the 28th and got some hot days in the sandy terrain for acclimation. Except the 5 person support team from Sweden the team also got the greatest help from Andres Barbagelata, who helped the team with support and also with translation from English to Portugees! We also had two excellent drivers; Delano and Eliberto.

The logistic before the race was hard. The race briefings and opening ceremonies started really late in the evenings and the transports to different destinations (which were two) - one for the briefing and handing out the maps, and the other on was to the start - was starting really early morning.

The start over the sandunes, Mikael coming from left side...

The race started with a 4 hours running in the sand dunes. Luckily for the teams the start was in the afternoon and the sun was heading down. The Explore started great and was up in the head group during the running and came in on a third place just together with the other teams in the lead. A fast transition and the team paddled away out in the dark in big waves.

During this paddling section the team could choose to take a bonus CP, which meant that they could take away 4 hours mandatory sleep (every team had a “sleep card” where they must sleep at least 8 hours during the race, and this sleep must be taken out in different CP) The team decided to not take this extra CP.

After the night paddling the team reached TA and changed for a biking leg, the section was going to be very sandy so the teams headed out with gaiters on and still the team was in strong mode.

The biking took the teams trough small villages and when night set in the team reached TA at the church. There the team had to make a bit slower change when Viktoria had problems to keep food and liquid. But after eating and slowly drinking the team set off again.

On this stage the team made some mistakes when they didn´t find one of the CP and lost around 4 hours seaching… so the team lost places, but very near the other teams with about 6 team within an hour.

Then out on a biking again during daytime and a very hot one again, and the team gained time against the team infront. Then followed a trekking and a biking and then a kayaking. During the kayaking Viktoria became really sick and after hours and hours of not beeing able to keep anything in her stomage the team took the decision to call for help. Viktoria did a great effort trying to keep on going but a least it became impossible. The team withdrawln only 7 hours from the finish and was at that time the best place Scandinavian team.

Martin Flinta just survived the two day stage race in Trinidad. He got second just Richard Ussher in front of him. " I had a good race and it felt ok in the heat. Tough course with 4-5 meters waves and real djungel running and heavy beaches."
